Language/communication was an issue. While English is the international language of aviation, individual countries are free to conduct operations in their native language. This can result in two types of problems: (1) poor English skills, in which case ATC instructions may be misinterpreted; or (2) operations in mixed-language countries, which can result in a lack of pilot situational awareness. Ongoing issues and emphasis remains on the proper use of aviation English, even in countries that are native-English speakers. For example, clearances that are issued too rapidly.
